Seven and Eight Seats: What We Hire in Paphos, and What We Do Not.

If the vehicle you want is described by how many kilograms it carries rather than how many people, you want a different company, and we would rather you found that out in the first ten seconds than in an email.

That reader is served in Cyprus, just not by us. On 4 August 2026 Hertz Cyprus specified all four of its van groups by payload in kilograms and load volume in cubic metres, with no seat count anywhere on the page, and Carmaster's own guide priced four cargo groups for a house move. We are naming them so you can go and look, not recommending one over the other, and we have no arrangement with either.

Our current list really is two vehicles. The model shown may not be the exact vehicle available for your dates.

We do not publish a boot figure for either vehicle, because we do not have one in writing. What we can tell you is that the third row eats the boot on any seven-seat MPV, so tell us the party size and the number of cases and we will tell you which of the two to take, or that eight seats is the safer choice. Nobody else on this search publishes an answer to that question either, so we would rather give you a real one over the phone than a number we cannot stand behind.

The Sienta is a hybrid. Delivery to hotels and villas across the Paphos area is free at any rental length. And one honest note on size: the streets around the harbour and Kato Paphos are narrow and the parking is tight, which our Paphos page is blunt about, so an eight-seater there is a different afternoon from a small car.

Two of those rows are worth sitting with. The same Kayak page states about 67 pounds a day in its FAQ block and about 49 in its trends block: a 37 per cent disagreement on one page, on one day. And peoplecarrierhire prices what is essentially one vehicle three times, as MPV hire at 80 to 140 pounds, people carrier hire at 95 to 160 and seven-seater car hire at 110 to 190, bands 30 to 50 pounds apart.

None of these sources is lying. They are reporting different searches, made at different moments, in different currencies, for different scopes. That is exactly why a headline rate is not a quote, and it is why we print an observation date beside every figure we publish, including our own.

The rest of the money question, in one line each. The excess is a flat 300 euro on eligible bodywork with the optional waiver, and it excludes off-road use, tyres, glass, the underbody, the interior and the keys. There is no cash deposit with a valid credit card, subject to approval, vehicle category and rental conditions. There is no prepayment at any stage. A hire of a month or more sits on a different rate structure, so call us rather than reading a monthly figure off a comparison page.

On the airport question, Kayak puts collecting away from the airport at around 2 per cent cheaper for a Paphos seven-seater, which is inside the noise of a figure it states three different ways on the same page. Our own Paphos Airport handover is a meet-and-greet, described on the airport page.

That is worth stating because the alternative is real. The one full-size passenger nine-seater specification page we could find for Cyprus, Enterprise's, is a manual Peugeot seating nine with room for seven bags, read on 4 August 2026. Carmaster's van terms, read the same day, require a valid driving licence for manual vehicles.

Be clear about what that difference is, though. It is a comfort and competence difference in Cyprus traffic, not a licence difference: a nine-seater needs the same ordinary category B licence ours does. So we are not going to present the licence as a reason to book with us, and if you need nine seats we do not have them, in any transmission.

The Cyprus Road Transport Department publishes its licence categories as a form, and that form puts the minibus category D1 at small buses of nine to sixteen seats. So the minibus category does not begin until nine seats. The EU driving-licence directive draws the same boundary in its own words, defining category B as a vehicle with a maximum authorised mass of no more than 3,500 kg built to carry no more than eight passengers in addition to the driver, and category D as one built for more than that, with D1 capped at sixteen. The two documents count differently, one by seats and one by passengers besides the driver, and both put a vehicle like ours inside category B.

The arithmetic on our own vehicles is then simple. The eight-seat Serena carries seven passengers plus the driver, and the seven-seat Sienta six plus the driver, so both sit inside category B with room to spare. So would a nine-seater, which is the honest reason we are not treating this as a selling point.

What we ask for is our own requirement rather than the law: drivers from 21 with a licence held at least two years, the original licence and not a photocopy, and no upper age limit, subject to individual assessment. Cyprus road rules, speed limits and the statutory detail belong in a driving guide, which we have not published yet.

That is worth saying plainly rather than leaving you to work it out: on 4 August 2026 the one aggregator page we could read listed seventeen named companies hiring seven-seaters in Paphos alone, and it also runs separate eight- and nine-seater pages.    Nobody publishes an excess figure

   Of the nine sources we could read on 4 August 2026, not one published an excess in euro. One said insurance was included and gave no figure; another offered protection packages to reduce your liability and gave no figure. Ours is a flat 300 euro on eligible bodywork, and the waiver that carries it is optional.

   The deposit and the excess are different things

   Ours is no cash deposit with a valid credit card, subject to approval, vehicle category and rental conditions. The one competitor on this search that publishes a deposit asks 550 euro, reduced to 250 with a 10-euro-a-day upgrade that still carries a 350 euro excess. Read on 4 August 2026.

   A seven-seater is still an asphalt vehicle

   One competitor recommends a seven-seater for the Akamas Peninsula. Our terms make unsealed roads an exclusion, with a penalty of 300 to 600 euro per violation plus 15 to 30 euro per kilometre, and the waiver does not cover off-road use at all. The Paphos page sets out which routes those are.

   Insurance stops at the Green Line

   Driving north of the Green Line is possible only with our prior permission, separate insurance for the northern part and the required documentation. Without those it is an exclusion under our terms. We spell it out here because an operator based in the north ranks in the top ten for this exact search, so you may arrive on this page having just read one that offers what we cannot.

Three smaller ones together, because they are the same kind of fact: a late return is 100 euro plus 20 euro for each started hour, returning to the wrong location is charged from 300 euro, and traffic fines stay with the renter. The full rate-and-extras breakdown is on the hub.
