What car hire in Paphos costs, and why comparison sites look cheaper
One day in the Nissan March is 65 euro, and the same car is 17 euro a day once the hire reaches 30 days. A one day hire runs from 65 to 160 euro depending on class, confirmed on 26 August 2026.

Third-party liability insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance are already in the rate, so the figure above is not a stripped-back quote. The Collision Damage Waiver is the one optional addition, at 15 euro a day on cars. We publish the waiver's day rate rather than only the excess so that you can add it to the class rate yourself before you ask us for anything.
Our rate against the comparison sites
If you have just searched for car hire in Paphos, you have seen lower numbers than ours. Ours is the figure we will honour, with the excess stated beside it.
The four dated comparison-site figures, and what two of them did between two reads of one day, are on our page on what the low Paphos day rates leave out.
Those numbers are real, and they are usually not what a short hire costs, on their pages or on ours. Arenda footnotes its own advertised prices as being for rentals of 16 days or more; our own 17 euro is a rate for a hire of 30 days or more, and one day in the same car is 65 euro. Both figures are above. The difference that does not move with the length is prepayment: the comparison route takes your card up front, with a pre-authorisation at pick-up, and we take nothing until you collect.
There is a second reason those figures move about: one supplier can carry a different price on every comparison site on the same day, and the figures move within a day as well.
So we are not claiming to be the lowest number on your screen. We are claiming that this number is the one we will honour, and that you can see the excess beside it.
What the other Paphos companies offer, and where they beat us
Paphos has a deep local rental market, and some of it is genuinely better than us on specific terms. Every figure below was read from that company's own published page, on 3 August 2026 or on 13 August 2026 where the row says so. We name them without linking to them.

Where they beat us
- Our excess is beaten on the number itself. Thrasos published a plain 250 euro against our 300 on 13 August 2026, with no deposit and no excess block. That is a lower figure rather than a different product, and it is the most useful thing on this page if the excess is what you are comparing.
- If zero excess is the single thing that matters to you, two more Paphos companies advertise it on a full-insurance product and we do not match them.
- If you want tyre and windscreen damage covered, Elephant includes it and our waiver does not.
- If your rental is three days and you want unlimited mileage regardless, four local companies print that flat and we attach a five-day condition.
- If you want a free second driver and a free child seat on a short booking, Paphos Car Rental gives both on every booking.
- On free delivery we win against two and lose to two. Thrasos delivers free to Paphos and Larnaca airports and other Cyprus locations, and Elephant states 24/7 delivery throughout Cyprus. Ours is free across the Paphos area only.
Where we hold up
- Cars from 21 with a licence held two years, where the two largest local names start at 25. Nobody in this set beats our age band at either end.
- We hire to 90 on the pick-up date, against local caps observed at 74, 75 and 79.
- A dated per-class rate and a euro excess figure on the same page. Six of the seven companies we read publish no rate at all, one publishes an excess and no rate, and the comparison site publishes rates with no excess and no date. Not one publishes both.
- A published off-road penalty. None of the seven publishes anything comparable, so that exposure cannot be compared anywhere else in this town.
- No prepayment of any kind. That ties with Thrasos, and it beats the 30 euro booking deposit at Paphos Car Rental and the whole comparison-site route, which is prepaid.
- Free delivery across the Paphos area at any rental length, where Arenda charges from 10 euro and Alpan prices anything off its list case by case.
If the excess figure is what decides it for you, one Paphos company published a lower one than ours ten days ago and two more advertise zero excess on an insurance upgrade. If you are between 25 and 75 and hiring for two or three days, one of them may suit you better. That is a real answer, and we would rather give it than lose your afternoon. What none of the seven companies we read matches is the age band at either end, or an excess figure you know before you book rather than at the desk.

Age and licence: who the Paphos market will not hire to
Cars are for drivers aged 21 and over who have held a licence for at least two years. Bring the original document, not a photocopy.

Original licence required
Not a photocopy. The correct category is required for scooters and motorcycles.
That 21 matters more in Paphos than it looks. The two largest local companies by review volume start at 25, and one local zero-excess insurance product runs only from 25 to 75. A 21-year-old landing at Paphos Airport with two years on their licence has few places to go in this town, and we are one of the few that will take the booking. At least one other Paphos company also welcomes under-25 drivers, so we are one of the few rather than the only one.
At the other end we are stronger still. We set no upper cut-off at all, against published caps in this town at 74 with a surcharge, at 75 on a zero-excess product, and at 79 at one broker.
Worth knowing why those caps exist. EasyTerra states plainly on its own page that it does not set these limits, and that the rental companies do. An upper age limit is a supplier's commercial choice rather than a rule of Cyprus, so a form that rejects your age is telling you about its supplier list.
On licences, two sources are worth reading before you fly. EU driving licences valid for life are recognised across the EU, so an EU licence works here. The UK Foreign Office confirms a UK photocard licence can be used to drive in Cyprus. It also notes that if you still hold a paper licence, you may need to update it to a photocard, or get the correct version of the international driving permit as well.

Those four are the areas. On the booking form you will also see a set of named hotels we already deliver to, and a deliver-to-my-address option for anywhere else in the Paphos area. Some of those points are pick-up only, and the form tells you which when you choose one.
Where the car has to come back
We hand the car over in one town and take it back in the same town. There is no one-way hire with us, not between Paphos and Limassol and not between any two of the five cities where we hire cars. Returning a car to the wrong location is charged from 300 euro.
We put this near the top of the section rather than in the small print, because it is the assumption that costs the most. A company that lists five cities reads like a company you can drive across, and plenty of them are. We are not one, and finding that out at the end of a trip is the worst possible moment. If your plan is to land at Larnaca and fly out of Paphos, a comparison site sells the one-way drop and we do not.
Coral Bay
A real handover point rather than a marketing radius. If you are staying above the bay or up towards Peyia, we bring the car to the property and collect it from there, free. One thing to plan for: the tracks north of Coral Bay are unsealed, and the roads section below explains why that matters for the car you choose.
Kato Paphos
We deliver around the harbour, the Tombs of the Kings and Poseidonos. The streets there are narrow and parking is tight, which is the honest reason some visitors take the smallest car we have rather than the largest. A Nissan March parks in Kato Paphos. A Nissan Serena is a different afternoon.
Renting for a month or more
Long-term and monthly hire sits on a different rate structure, so we quote those separately rather than publishing a monthly figure we have not committed to.
One local competitor's footprint is wider than ours. PafoRentals delivers to Polis, Latchi, Pissouri and onward to Limassol, Larnaca and Protaras. Since August 2026 we hire cars in Limassol, Larnaca, Nicosia and Ayia Napa as well as Paphos: an office at Andrea Zaimi 11a in Limassol, and in the other three a delivery to the address you give us. We do not run one-way rentals between any two of them. Polis, Latchi, Pissouri and Protaras are still not ours to serve.

Collecting at Paphos Airport
We are not one of the desks inside the terminal. Our Paphos Airport handover is a meet and greet in the arrivals area, free on rentals of five days or more, and we track the flight number you give us when you book.
Is it cheaper at the airport or in town?
With us, neither. We run one rate card for the whole Paphos area and add no location surcharge, so the class rate is the same whether you collect at Chlorakas or we meet your flight. The difference is a person holding your name against a counter queue, not a price. What the terminal desk companies charge is their business and we have not verified it.
Under five days the airport meet and greet is not free, and we tell you what it comes to when we confirm your dates rather than printing a figure here we have not committed to. There is a way round it that costs nothing: delivery to your hotel or villa anywhere in the Paphos area is free at any rental length, including a two-day hire. Get to your accommodation however you were going to, and we bring the car to the door.

Driving out of Paphos: which roads our cars are allowed on
This is the section a Paphos page owes you, and none of the five best-placed rental pages we read publishes anything like it.
Our cars are for sealed roads only
Off-road use is charged at 450 euro per violation on a standard car such as the March, the Note or the Mirage, and 600 euro on the X-Trail, the Serena or the Sienta, plus 20 euro for every started kilometre off the asphalt on the first band and 30 euro on the second. If the asphalt ends you have 15 metres to turn around, and no further. That is our rule rather than a threat, and we publish the figures so you can weigh them. None of the five Paphos pages we read publishes an equivalent number, so this exposure cannot be compared anywhere else in this town.
The Akamas question, concretely
The tracks north of Coral Bay towards Lara Bay and Avakas Gorge are unsealed. That is precisely where the asphalt-only rule bites, and a four-wheel-drive badge does not change the rental contract. So here is the real answer rather than a warning: those same zones are approved routes for our buggies, on written route approval before departure. If Akamas is the plan, hire a buggy and leave the car on the tarmac.

Where a car is the right choice
Some orientation, observed rather than asserted. Limassol is about 70 km east on the A6. The airport is about 10 km south-east via the B6 and E603, and the road north towards Polis is being upgraded. On the jeep-or-hatchback question, our answer is unglamorous. For sealed roads and Kato Paphos parking, the smallest automatic is usually the better car. Our X-Trail is a comfort choice, not an access permit.
Note also that hire companies renting mopeds and quad bikes usually provide third-party insurance only, which is the Foreign Office's wording rather than ours, so damage to the vehicle is the rider's.

One thing to carry with you whichever car you take: the UK Foreign Office describes driving standards in Cyprus as poor, with a higher road-death rate than the UK.
Two rules that void cover
The UK Foreign Office states that cars hired in the Republic of Cyprus often have no insurance cover in the north. It adds that separate cover can be bought at crossing points including Agios Dometios. Under our own terms you may take one of our cars north of the Green Line only with our prior permission, separate northern insurance, and the required documentation. Never hand your passport over as a deposit
The UK Foreign Office states on that same page that it is illegal in Cyprus. Not one of the five Paphos pages we read mentions it. We do not ask for your passport, and no company needs to hold it.

The excess and the deposit, against what Paphos advertises
The excess is the part of a damage bill you pay yourself before the waiver takes over. On our cars the Collision Damage Waiver is optional and costs 15 euro a day. If you take it, the excess is a flat 300 euro on eligible bodywork. It does not cover off-road use, tyres, glass, the underbody, the interior or the keys.
Now the Paphos context, which is where this differs from a national comparison, and where the honest answer went against us this month. On 13 August 2026 Thrasos Paphos Car Hire published a plain 250 euro excess, with no deposit and no block on the excess amount. That is a lower number than ours on the same kind of product, and we would rather you read it here than find it after booking with us. Separately, PafoRentals and Paphos Car Rental both advertised zero excess on a full-insurance product on 3 August 2026, one of them restricted to drivers aged 25 to 75. A zero-excess product is a paid upgrade rather than a lower price, so compare the total rather than the excess line alone. A 250 euro excess is not an upgrade, and that one is a straight loss.
The deposit is a separate thing, and the two get confused constantly.

With a valid credit card there is no cash deposit, subject to approval, vehicle category and rental conditions. Where those are not met, a refundable deposit or a card pre-authorisation may be held instead.
Two concessions. Arenda requires no credit card at all, and we do not match that. Arenda also puts the Cyprus market norm at 500 to 1,500 euro, which is the context our figure needs. Against that, we take no prepayment of any kind, where Paphos Car Rental asks for a 30 euro booking deposit and the comparison-site route is prepaid with a card pre-authorisation at pick-up.

What is in the rate, and the four things that become free at five days
Third-party liability insurance, 24/7 roadside assistance and free Paphos-area delivery are in the rate. Four more items become free once your rental reaches five days.
Read the mileage row twice. Three of the best-placed Paphos companies print unlimited mileage flat, and ours is conditional on a rental of five days or more. Saying that out loud is the point: the condition is in their agreements too, and we would rather you found it here than at the desk.
For groups, one day in the 7-seat Toyota Sienta is 110 euro and in the 8-seat Nissan Serena 120, falling to 65 and 75 a day once the hire reaches a week. Luggage with all seats upright is the real constraint, so tell us the party size and the bags.

Two rows go to the comparison sites, and they matter. Their headline day rates are lower than ours. They also cover the whole island where we cover five cities with cars, they sell an in-terminal desk at Larnaca Airport and a one-way drop, neither of which we do, and EasyTerra compares 33 Paphos suppliers in one search, which is real work that we do not do for you.
One caveat makes those rates fair to read. They are typically gated on longer rentals and prepaid. Arenda footnotes its own advertised prices as being for rentals of 16 days or more.
What direct gets you is one excess figure known before you book, no prepayment, free delivery at any rental length, and a person who can assess an edge case. That last one is concrete rather than rhetorical. A 21-year-old with two years on their licence, or an 84-year-old with fifty, is a phone call for us and a rejected form field on a booking platform.
We should be plain about the money here. We hire out our own vehicles, so there is no commission on this page, no affiliate link, and no third party in the transaction.
When to book a car in Paphos
The busy season in Paphos runs from July right through October. It is four months rather than two, and it does not soften in September the way visitors expect. Demand from the UK peaks in August and then holds high from February to June.

The practical consequence is the bit people get wrong. October is a high-season month in Paphos, not a shoulder month, and automatics go first in that window. Two or three weeks ahead is usually enough to get the class you wanted rather than what is left on the yard.

Yes. Our office is at Griva Digeni 55 in Chlorakas, the Paphos suburb where the whole fleet is based, and you can collect there. Or we bring the car to you: delivery is free to any address across the Paphos area, at any rental length. We do not run a walk-up counter, so we agree a handover time with you when we confirm your dates.
Five companies hold desks inside the terminal, in Arrivals after Baggage Reclaim, per the airport operator Hermes Airports. We are not one of them. Our handover is a meet and greet in the arrivals area, free on rentals of five days or more, and we track your flight number.
No. Our cars are for sealed roads, and off-road use is charged at 450 euro per violation on a standard car and 600 euro on an SUV or seven-seater, plus 20 to 30 euro for every started kilometre. You get 15 metres past the end of the asphalt to turn around. Those zones are approved routes for our buggies instead, subject to written route approval before departure.
With a valid credit card there is no cash deposit, subject to approval, vehicle category and rental conditions. Otherwise a refundable deposit or a card pre-authorisation may be held. There is no prepayment at any point. Two local companies go further than we do: Arenda advertises that no credit card is needed at all, and Thrasos advertised no deposit and no block on the excess amount on 13 August 2026. Paphos Car Rental asks for a 30 euro booking deposit, which we do not.
No. We hand the car over in one town and take it back in the same town, and that holds across all five cities where we hire cars, so there is no one-way hire between Paphos and Limassol or between any other two of them. Returning a car to the wrong location is charged from 300 euro. If your trip needs a one-way drop, a comparison site sells that and we do not, and we would rather say so now.
With us it is the same price either way. We run one rate card and add no location surcharge, so the class rate is what it is whether you collect at our Chlorakas office or we meet you in Arrivals, and the airport meet and greet is free on rentals of five days or more. What differs is the experience rather than our price: five companies hold desks inside the terminal, per the airport operator Hermes Airports, and we are not one of them, so with us you meet a person with your name rather than joining a counter queue. We make no claim about what the desk companies charge, because we have not verified it.
