Four screens, four different answers, and not one of them publishes an excess figure. If you have searched for cheap car hire in Paphos, you have four tabs open and four different answers. We are Rents in Cyprus, an operator in Chlorakas hiring out our own fleet, and we are not claiming to be the lowest number on any of those tabs. We are stating the number we will honour, and putting the excess beside it.
A headline day rate for Paphos car hire is a search result rather than an offer. It is filtered to one driver profile, it is prepaid, it is re-priced through the day, and it carries no published excess figure. Our 17 euro is a starting rate with the excess, the fuel policy and the deposit position stated beside it.

Five comparison sites, one town, one day, four different answers
On 4 August 2026 we read five comparison sites on the same town. They gave four different answers to which Paphos supplier costs least, and three different answers to which month is cheapest.

Two of those figures are worth pulling out. Get Your Car, one supplier, was listed at 4 euro by easyCar, at 10.37 and then 10.57 pounds by Kayak on two reads of the same day, at 15 pounds by EasyTerra, a sixth site also read on 4 August 2026, and at 27 dollars by Booking.com. Five quotes, one day.
Kayak also disagrees with itself. Its FAQ states that a luxury car in Paphos costs 18 pounds a day on average, while its trends block on the same page states around 122 pounds. The FAQ figure makes a luxury car cheaper than a medium one. The same page publishes three different small-car averages of 20, 19 and 15 pounds.
There is a structural reason the disagreement is narrower than it looks. Kayak's own about page lists momondo as one of its brands, read 4 August 2026, and the two sites' per-class figures track each other to the pound. Four tabs is three sources.
None of these sites is lying. They are reporting different searches, taken at different moments, from different supplier feeds. That is precisely why a headline rate is not a quote.

What a low headline rate is a rate for, and what sits beside ours
Not one of the five sites we read on 4 August 2026 published an excess figure in euro. The excess is the part of a damage bill you pay yourself before the waiver takes over, so it is the number that decides what a scratch costs you.

What the low number is a rate for
Three things the low number is a rate for, each checkable on the sites themselves. It is quoted for a driver aged 25 to 65, TravelSupermarket's own widget default. It is usually prepaid, with a card pre-authorisation at pick-up. And it carries no published excess. The same three apply whether you searched for cheap or for budget car hire in Paphos.
Now ours. The Collision Damage Waiver is optional cover that caps what you pay for damage to the car's own bodywork. If you take it, the excess is a flat 300 euro on eligible bodywork, and it excludes off-road use, tyres, glass, the underbody, the interior and the keys.

- No fuel: returning the car short is charged
On deposits, one line and no more, because our Paphos page carries the full picture: with a valid credit card there is no cash deposit, subject to approval, vehicle category and rental conditions, and otherwise a refundable deposit or a card pre-authorisation may be held. Every rate here was confirmed on 3 August 2026, and none of them includes the optional Collision Damage Waiver. The photograph shows the class rather than the car you will be handed, and a request holds nothing until we confirm it in writing.
What these figures did in 24 hours
On 4 August 2026 we read one comparison site's list of the cheapest Paphos suppliers in the past 72 hours, twice, in one day.

Get Your Car moved by 20 pence. Autorent Cyprus dropped out of the list entirely. ABBYCAR appeared. Only AERCAR held its place. On a second site, TravelSupermarket, the Paphos town Mini rate moved from 10.86 pounds on 3 August 2026 to 10.91 pounds on 4 August.
The sites say so themselves, which is what makes the measurement fair rather than accusatory. TravelSupermarket states that it updates these prices every two hours, that the price may have changed by the time you click through, and that you should always confirm the price with the company you are booking with. momondo states that its Paphos prices are updated daily.
A figure re-priced every two hours, inside a rolling window, is a search result. It is not a number anyone has agreed with you.
Ours is one starting rate with one date on it, and it does not move between your two visits. What does move is the season and the length of your rental. Our written terms do not quantify that variation, so we publish no seasonal grid and we invent none. Send us your dates and we quote the real figure.
This is the section that most depends on method, so it is worth saying where the dates come from: our own figures come from our price list, confirmed 3 August 2026, and every third-party figure is a dated reading of that company's own page. Every car we hire is an automatic, and what that is worth in a low-rate search
Kayak states on its own Paphos page that manual transmission cars are far more common throughout Europe, and that if you wish to rent an automatic you will need to specify this and will likely pay an additional charge. Read 4 August 2026.
All nine cars on our price list are automatic, from the 17 euro a day Nissan March up, confirmed 3 August 2026. There is no transmission surcharge in our terms.
So if you are holding a headline rate against ours, check that the two quotes are for the same transmission. A like-for-like automatic comparison is often not the comparison on the screen.
The honest limit, because it matters: we have not priced anybody else's automatic upgrade, so we are not putting a figure on the gap. We are saying the gap exists in that site's own words, and that our own written terms state no surcharge for an automatic. For context, momondo records the most popular hire model in Paphos as a small city car, which is the segment a low headline rate lives in.

One week or sixty-nine days? What the sites say about booking ahead
On 4 August 2026 Booking.com advised booking one week ahead, and Kayak advised booking about sixty-nine days ahead, for the same town.

Days is the market's own typical Paphos rental, per easyCar
One finding in that set is genuinely useful. easyCar publishes, from its own booking data, that the most popular rental length in Paphos is nine to ten days, most often in May. Our unlimited mileage, our free second driver, our free baby seat and our free airport meet and greet all begin at five days. So the market's own typical booking clears that threshold with four days to spare, and delivery across the Paphos area is free at any length.
Our own rates vary by season and by rental length, and our written terms do not put a number on either, so there is no month-by-month grid on this page.

Three things a low-rate search gets wrong about your licence
A cheap search screen shows a rate. It does not show whether you qualify for it, and on licences the sites we read do not agree with each other.

Licence tenure
Kayak states that drivers must have held their licence for at least one year. TravelSupermarket states the Paphos norm is 21 with a licence held for three years. Our own terms require two years, confirmed 3 August 2026. Three answers, one town, one day. The one that binds your booking is on your rental agreement.

The International Driving Permit
Kayak tells you that you must acquire one before your trip, and that not carrying it risks hefty fines and voids your hire conditions. Against that, the EU states that international driving permits are not regulated at EU level and may not be recognised in other EU countries, and that an EU licence valid for life is recognised in all EU countries. The UK Foreign Office states that you can use a UK photocard driving licence to drive in Cyprus, and that a paper licence may need a photocard upgrade or the correct version of the permit. Both read 4 August 2026. We do not state the Cyprus statutory position: the Road Transport Department site was unreachable on our fourth attempt, so the statute belongs in our driving in Cyprus guide.

Who the quote is for
That headline number is quoted for a driver aged 25 to 65, TravelSupermarket's own widget default. Our cars are from 21 with a licence held two years, and there is no upper age limit, assessed individually instead. The town's full age picture sits on our Paphos car hire page.

Where the comparison sites genuinely win
Four concessions, and no "but" after them.
- Their headline day rates are lower than ours. Every figure in the first table on this page says so.
- TravelSupermarket includes mandatory fees, including young-driver and one-way surcharges, in the quote at the time of booking. That is real work, and we do not do it for you.
- TravelSupermarket also states that every deal it compares carries a fair, full-to-full fuel policy. Same standard we apply, applied across a market rather than to one fleet.
- They cover the whole island. We cover the Paphos area. A Larnaca arrival heading east can be booked through them today and cannot be booked through us.
Kayak counts 120 hire locations in Paphos and momondo counts 120 operators. Each is a site's claim about its own coverage, not a market fact.

Four things a low-rate search will not tell you
These four are not on the comparison screen, and three of them cost money.
- 01.
A comparison site will send you north
TravelSupermarket states on its own Paphos page that you are better off crossing the border on foot and hiring a car on the other side. We report that the advice exists, we do not repeat it, and we present no supply north of the Green Line. The UK Foreign Office states that cars hired in the Republic of Cyprus often have no insurance cover in the north, and that separate cover can be bought at some crossing points, including Agios Dometios. Under our own terms you may take one of our cars north only with our prior permission, separate insurance for the northern part, and the required documentation. Without those three, crossing is an exclusion.

A prepaid rate plus a refused card is the worst outcome here
TravelSupermarket states that many major rental companies require a credit card for the deposit and will not accept a debit card even if you have booked in advance. Our own terms say nothing about debit cards, so this page claims nothing about them: ask us first. With a valid credit card there is no cash deposit, and no prepayment at any stage, so nothing is at risk before you see the car.

Nobody sets the cancellation policy you are relying on
momondo states that a majority of Paphos rental agencies do not have a cancellation fee, and in the same breath that momondo does not set those policies. You meet the supplier's policy after you have paid. We take no prepayment, so there is nothing to cancel and nothing to reclaim.

The return is timed
Late return is 100 euro plus 20 euro for each started hour, returning to the wrong location is charged from 300 euro, and fuel is full to full or we charge refuelling plus the fuel. Traffic fines issued during your rental are yours.
