Quad Rental in Paphos: What It Costs, and What We Hire

Displacement does not predict price here. A 450cc costs 60 euro a day at one Paphos firm and 80 euro at another. An 800cc is 90 euro while a 525cc is 100 euro. Nobody in this market compares those two facts, because no operator has a reason to.

Multi-day hire changes the arithmetic more than the engine does. One published ladder runs 80 euro for a single day and 340 euro for five, an effective 68 euro a day. Another runs 70 euro to 270 euro, an effective 54 euro. Neither is advertised that way.

Two things are worth saying plainly about the list above. Six of the ten Cyprus results we read publish no price at all. And not one operator in the set dates a single figure, so a reader has no way to know whether a number is current.

Watch the "from 50 euro" and "from 90 euro" claims. Several name no machine at all. A starting price with no displacement attached is not a rate you can hold anyone to.

We do not hire quads. One is on order and cannot be hired yet, and we will not take a booking for it.

The two machines get confused because they share the same tracks. A quad is one rider on a straddled four-wheeler, sized by displacement, with no cage around you. Ours are buggies: seated side-by-sides with a roll cage and seat belts, one seating two and one seating six.

Several Paphos companies do hire quads, and we are not one of them. If a quad is specifically what you want, they are the businesses to approach.

One more thing, because the same readers keep arriving on it: we have no four-seater. A group of four takes the six-seat machine.

The Road Transport Department publishes its licence-category form, ENTYPO T.O.M. 180, dated 15 April 2016 and read 4 August 2026. It lists categories for mopeds, motorbikes, vehicles by weight, minibuses and buses. It contains no quadricycle category, no category B1, and no mention of quads or ATVs at all.

EU Directive 2006/126/EC Article 4 does address the machine. It places quadricycles in category B1 at a minimum age of 16, states that B1 is an optional category, and states that in member states which do not introduce it, "a driving licence for category B shall be required to drive such vehicles". Light quadricycles sit in category AM. That is EU law, and it is not a statement about how Cyprus implemented it.

So the position is this. The department publishes no B1 category, and the directive says that where B1 is not introduced, a category B licence is required for a quadricycle.

What we cannot tell you from published sources is whether Cyprus has introduced B1 or not. The department's own licence-types page is under construction, so a category's absence from a 2016 form is not proof that the category does not exist. Anyone who tells you the Cyprus answer is settled is telling you more than the published record supports.

Now test the market against that. One Paphos operator publishes that a car licence is what it hires quads and buggies on. A second publishes a table stating that category B covers "Cars, Quads, Buggies, Mopeds 50 cc", and it is that page Google promotes into its own answer box, citing no law. A third publishes that "an A1 Driving License is required", which in the directive is a motorcycle category. A1 appears in no government list we could find.

The finding that explains the confusion is the department's own. Its "Licence Types" page reads "Under construction...", last modified 31 July 2026. The market is filling a vacuum the department has left open.

What settles the category for one specific machine is that machine's type approval, whether it is registered as a light quadricycle or a quadricycle. We will state the category for our own machine when we hold its papers, and not before. If you are hiring from anyone in Cyprus, ask that company which category it hires on and get the answer in writing. Riding on the wrong one is how a ride ends up uninsured.

There is no single Cyprus answer, because the published minimum age tracks the machine rather than the country.

Across the island's published pages, the same product class carries a minimum of 18 at two operators, 20 at another and 21 at another. One operator publishes 18 for its 400cc and 800cc machines and 21 for its Polaris range on the same page. That is the clearest demonstration available that the insurer, not the law, is setting the number.

Under EU Directive 2006/126/EC, which is EU law and not a statement of how Cyprus applies it, the floors are 16 for a light quadricycle in category AM and for B1, and 18 for category B.

Our own rule is a buggy and scooter rule, not a quad rule:

• We may accept hire from 18, depending on licence category, driving experience and insurance conditions
• The licence must have been held for at least two years
• We need the original licence, not a photocopy

We publish no quad age, because we have no quad.

Three terms the quad market does not publish at all. Our Collision Damage Waiver is optional and carries a 300 euro excess on eligible bodywork only. It excludes off-road use, tyres, glass, the underbody, the interior and the keys, so off-road damage to the vehicle is the renter's. We print that rather than describing it as full insurance, which it is not.

There is no prepayment. You pay on pick-up, cash or card. On the deposit: there is no cash deposit with a valid credit card, subject to approval, vehicle category and rental conditions. Otherwise a refundable deposit or a card pre-authorisation may be held. Fuel is full to full, and if the vehicle comes back short there is a refuelling fee plus the cost of the fuel.

We hand over at four points, all in the Paphos area: our Chlorakas office, Paphos Airport, Coral Bay and Kato Paphos. Delivery to hotels and villas across the Paphos area is free at any length of hire. Buggy hire starts from one hour.

Routes are agreed in writing before you leave. Approved zones may include Lara Bay, Avakas Gorge, White River and Adonis Baths. The Blue Lagoon and public highways are not permitted on ours. One local operator does allow the Blue Lagoon on its machines of 700cc and above, so if that is the reason for the trip, we are not the hire you want.

The set is the ten published pages that appeared in the two top tens we read on 4 August 2026, one Cyprus and one UK. "A day rate" below means a rate attached to a named machine: a bare "from 50 euro" with no displacement is not counted.

Two readings of that table. No operator in this market publishes a mileage cap or a fuel policy, so you cannot know before you arrive whether distance or fuel is charged. And displacement gates the routes: the Blue Lagoon is permitted only on machines of 700cc and above, which means the cheapest machine on the price list is the one that cannot reach where the photographs were taken.

Whatever you hire, and from whoever you hire it, get the hours, the excess, the deposit and the route policy in writing before you pay.

The published figures, listed by the activity marketplace 365.tours and read 4 August 2026: a three-hour guided quad safari to Lara Bay at 70 euro and a five-hour at 85 euro, against 50 to 100 euro for a whole day of self-drive.

For a first ride, three spare hours and no wish to plan anything, the tour is the better buy, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
